Decibly collects no data. The microphone is used only to compute a loudness level in decibels, in real time, in memory. Audio is never recorded, stored or transmitted. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no third-party SDKs. Decibly is a paid app with no in-app purchases.

Decibly asks for microphone access because it cannot measure loudness without it. The audio signal is analysed on your device as it arrives: the app applies an A-weighting filter, computes a level in decibels roughly 20 times per second, and immediately discards the audio samples. No audio is ever written to disk, kept in memory beyond the current fraction of a second, or sent anywhere. The only thing the app keeps is a list of numbers (decibel values), and only while you are running a measurement session.
You can revoke microphone access at any time in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone. The app will then show an explanation instead of a reading.
None. We do not collect, receive, store, sell or share any personal data. The app has no user accounts and never asks for your name, email address or any other identifier. We operate no servers, and the app makes no network requests to us or to anyone else. Location access is never requested.
Decibly is a paid app bought once from the App Store. It contains no in-app purchases and no subscriptions. Payment is processed by Apple; we never see your payment details.
The app contains no analytics or tracking SDKs, no advertising, and no third-party code other than Apple's own iOS frameworks. We do not use cookies or any form of tracking, and we do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined in privacy laws such as the CCPA or GDPR — because we never have any.
Swipe a session in History to delete it, or use the Delete button on the session page. Deleting the app removes all of its data. Calibration and preferences are stored in the app's local settings and are removed with the app.
Decibly does not collect data from anyone, including children, and its content is appropriate for all ages.
If we ever change how the app handles data, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above before the change takes effect. Since the app collects nothing, we expect changes to be rare.
